Connected Safety & Mobility

Driving infotainment forward

Safety & mobility is undergoing a transformative shift as connected technologies redefine how people move within urban and shared environments. By 2030, the majority of public transit systems and shared mobility solutions will integrate advanced connectivity, offering an opportunity to build seamless, technology-driven experiences that cater to the needs of diverse users.

Autonomous and shared mobility services, such as self-driving buses and robo-taxis, are reshaping public transit. These innovations create opportunities to enhance passenger experiences, turning travel time into an engaging and efficient "third space" for work, relaxation, or entertainment while traveling safely and efficiently.

Examples of work

Automated work zone data generation to enhance road safety

For our road safety client, we enhanced their existing traffic cones by integrating beacons and a gateway device to enable automated work zone data generation. Upon deployment, the cones trigger beacon transmissions, which the gateway aggregates to create a real-time WZDx feed in the cloud. This eliminates manual data entry, ensuring dynamic work zone updates for improved safety and traffic management. The WZDx feed is automatically created when cones are placed and removed upon closure or after a set duration, providing accurate, up-to-date information for navigation systems and roadway users.

Real-time safety alerts for Vulnerable Road Users

Our SAE-standards-based V2X platform delivers real-time safety alerts for VRUs, back-of-queue incidents, and work zones (via WZDx integration). Deployable across cloud, mobile, IVI, and infrastructure, it ingests safety data to generate and distribute alerts via various channels. This system, successfully showcased at ITS World Congress and currently being deployed for DOT applications, enhances road safety and mobility through improved situational awareness and reduced congestion.

Real-time worker presence detection

Our IoT solution enhances work zone safety by providing real-time worker presence detection. Bluetooth-enabled tags on hard hats are detected by a field gateway, which updates WZDx feeds in the cloud. The system automatically sets 'worker-presence' to true or false based on signal detection and motion, providing real-time visibility and automated updates. This scalable solution improves safety by enabling timely alerts to agencies and drivers.
