Former Director of Digital Services at the Valuation Office Agency and experienced transformation leader, Emma Charles, joins as the first practice lead for Valtech’s growing public sector offering.
London – 30th November 2023: Valtech, the experience innovation company, today announces the appointment of Emma Charles in a newly created role to head up its growing public sector practice in the UK, which includes the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and OZEV (Office for Zero-Emission Vehicles). As its first Director of Public Sector Practice, Emma will drive meaningful, transformative work for government organisations, executing the agency’s mission to unlock better ways for people to experience the world.
Valtech has been operating at the heart of the UK public sector for over 20 years, delivering award-winning services that citizens rely on. Emma’s role is the first of its kind at Valtech as it focuses on being a trusted partner for public sector organisations as they modernise. Amidst technology disruption in the sector, the creation of Emma’s role is motivated by an increasing need for public sector organisations to meet market demands and balance the interplay between digital and human experiences.
Emma brings over 25 years' experience in the design and management of digital change projects, specialising in digital maturity and transformation in central government departments both in-house and agency side. She joins from Kin + Carta, where she held the position of Director of Public Sector Delivery and Operations. Before this Emma held various senior positions, such as Public Sector Consulting lead at AND Digital, Director of Digital Services at the VOA (Valuation Office Agency), as well as Head of Digital Delivery at the Home Office where she set up the department’s first agile delivery team.
Drawing on her extensive sector knowledge and experience, Emma will lay the foundations for the growth of Valtech’s public sector practice in the UK. With a view to expand the practice globally, she will ensure the agency continues to pioneer new, efficient digital transformation methods and seamless user experiences that shape the public sector and benefit society at large.
“Digital transformation within the public sector requires innovation to find new ways to meet user needs, improve their experience, and employ data-driven methods – all at tremendous scale. Evolving user needs and expectations, as well as the UK government’s 2022 to 2025 roadmap for digital and data, all help to reinforce the constant need for public sector transformation. Right now, its organisations are tasked with responding to new challenges and opportunities in a timely and cost-effective manner,” said Emma Charles, Director of Public Sector Practice at Valtech. “Valtech is extremely well placed to rise to this challenge given its breadth of experience globally, and its depth of public sector expertise stretching back over two decades. I’m excited to work with the talented team to elevate that.”
Chris Daplyn, Managing Director, Northwestern Europe at Valtech said: “Emma will play a crucial role in enhancing our public sector expertise and taking it to the next level. We’re excited to have her on board, representing our commitment to the public sector and assuring the success of our dedicated practice as it grows.”
Emma will report to Chris Daplyn, Valtech’s Managing Director, Northwestern Europe.
